Sloping site overcome with striking architecture and engineering excellence!

Max Pritchard Gunner Architects, working in close partnership with PT Design, delivered Eyrie House—a bold and sculptural residence nestled into a steeply sloping site, where architecture and engineering work in tandem to create a home that is both grounded and elevated. Spread across three levels and anchored into the hillside, the design capitalises on panoramic views while maintaining a strong connection to the landscape.

PT Design’s engineering input was crucial to navigating the site’s topography. The lower levels are built directly into the bank using robust concrete slabs and carefully coordinated retaining structures, providing stability and mass while minimising the visual impact from the street. The swimming pool and associated rear retaining walls were seamlessly integrated into the overall structural design.

A key feature of the home is its cantilevered upper level, which projects dramatically out from the residence to capture views and create a sense of lightness and suspension. This was achieved through a finely tuned structural steel framework tied back into the residence behind.

Through considered structural planning and close collaboration, PT Design ensured that Eyrie House is not only visually striking but also technically resolved—an enduring residence that harmonises architectural ambition with engineering precision.
